The WCMG Surgical Institute is staffed by outstanding surgeons both from the local community and affiliated with the USF College of Medicine. The surgical specialties of the Institute’s staff include general and vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, breast cancer treatment, breast reconstruction and melanoma treatment.
Surgeons include:
- Douglas S. Reintgen, MD, FACS, surgical oncologist, is Professor of Surgery at USF College of Medicine and serves as Director of Cancer Initiatives at USF.
- Louis I. Astra, MD, FACS, general, vascular and thoracic surgery
- Effie Pappas Politis, MD, plastic and reconstructive surgery (USF)
- Rosemary Giuliano, ARNP, MSN, Director, Oncology Program
- Debora L. Ryder, MSN, ACNP-BC, Surgical Hospitalist
The Surgical Institute emphasizes a comprehensive approach to patient care. This team approach begins with the patient’s primary care physician and taps into the expertise of skilled surgeons alone with Florida Hospital North Pinellas staff anesthesiologists, radiologists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and highly qualified technical and support staff. Their combined expertise assures a continuum of surgical care with the patient as the central focus.
The Surgical Institute is bringing a new advanced level of surgical care to our local community by the combined resources of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, highly skilled surgeons and the resources and staff of Florida Hospital North Pinellas, a member of the Florida Hospital Network.
